CANAAN-Rev. James L. Padgett Sr, 79, went home to be with the Lord on October 23, 2024, in Skowhegan.
He was born on April 5, 1945, the son of the late William and Juanita (Manning) Padgett. He served our country in the United States Navy during Vietnam as a fire marshal as well as did NDT for the nuclear aircraft carriers. He was a member of the Blood Bought Church in Oakland.
Jim loved the Lord and served him faithfully. He had friends just about everywhere he went. He was a terrific storyteller, had a dry sense of humor, and enjoyed talking about interesting and controversial topics. He liked new vehicles and had recently become a Harley rider. He was a strong man who loved his family and they will cherish his memory.
He is survived by his children: Rebecca Baker and companion Gerard Doran, Carroll Delbaugh, James Padgett Jr and wife Melissa, Ella Padgett and husband Tim O'Neil, and Jeff Padgett and wife Kellie; grandchildren: Michael Reynolds and companion Madison Rishton, Cooper Padgett, and Jacoby Padgett; brother-in-law and life-long friend of 67 years, Harold "Wayne" Ray; brothers: Steve Padgett and Robert Padgett; nieces and nephews; and his friends at the Blood Bought Church.
He was predeceased by his loving wife of 60 years, Sandra; and two sons: Edmond and Aaron; and his sister, Victoria Collins.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, October 29, 2024, at the Shorey-Nichols Funeral Home, 191 Hartland Ave., Pittsfield, with his son, Jeff officiating. A committal will immediately follow at the Walker Cemetery in Canaan.
