A Life of Love, Laughter and Service: James G. Pecquex (1935-2025) James George Pecquex, 90, of Mount Horeb, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Friday, September 19, 2025, at Ingleside Manor Nursing Home. Born on July 1, 1935, in Brooklyn, New York, to the late Jim and Ada Pecquex, Jim was one of five children. He is survived by his sister, Kathy, and was preceded in death by his siblings Mary, Pat, and Frank. He was a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. On October 7, 1956, Jim married the love of his life, Madeline Elizabeth Lewis. They shared 62 wonderful years of marriage before she preceded him in death on November 24, 2018. Together, they raised five children: Renée, Jim Jr., Danny, Matthew, and Frank. A deeply social person, Jim was a natural leader of men who cherished the brotherhood and camaraderie of the firehouse, a bond that was like a second family to him. He served as a firefighter at FDNY Engine Co. 222 and later as a Lieutenant at Engine Co. 245, Brooklyn. His capacity for friendship, love, and affection extended far beyond the firehouse, touching the lives of his extended family, neighbors, and many friends who were a big part of his life. Jim was also gifted with a beautiful voice and often broke into singing spontaneous love songs to Madeline. A known practical joker and instigator, he brought great laughter to himself and others with his playful antics, but always in a loving way. He was also a truly compassionate person, always generous with his time and quick to stop and help others in need. He took his faith very seriously, striving to live out the example that Christ has given us all. He loved his grandchildren, delighting in giving them affectionate nicknames like "Charles Broccoli" or "the Higganum Huggers." He is survived by his five children: Renee Pecquex (and her husband, Blair), Jim Pecquex Jr. (and his wife, Marie), Danny Pecquex, Matthew Pecquex (and his wife, Lynn), and Frank Pecquex. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Emilie, Jackie, Charlotte, Jimmy, John, Jake, Noah, and Danielle. He also leaves behind his great- grandchildren: Josie, Joel, Adeline, and Jonah. A wake will be held at the Roslyn Heights Funeral Home, 75 Mineola Ave, Roslyn Heights, NY 11577 on Sunday, September 28, 2025, from 2:00PM to 4:00PM and from 5:30PM to 8:00PM. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 AM Monday, September 29, 2025 at St. Mary's Monsignor Ryan Parish Hall, 440 Round Hill Rd, Roslyn Heights, NY 11577, with burial to follow at Holy Rood Cemetery, 111 Old Country Rd, Westbury, NY 11590. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Uniformed Firefighters Association Widows' and Children's Fund at www.answerthecall.org.
