James G. Phipps, 88, of Gray, entered into eternal rest with his Lord on Friday, January 16, 2026, at the Johnson City Medical Center.
He was born on October 2, 1937, in Beckley, WV, the son of the late Jesse G. Phipps and Mary Emma Phipps.
Jim lived a life grounded in faith, family, and quit devotion to Christ. He cherished the bond of his large family and found joy in his family and friends, gathering with loved ones, and simply acts of kindness.
Survivors include four loving siblings: Margaret Connor Thompson (Norman), Jess Phipps (Lana), Janet Daniels (Carl), And Ruth McKeehan (Larry); along with many cherished nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great nephews, and extended family who will carry his legacy forward. In addition to his parents Jim was preceded in death by five dear sisters: Sarah Hyder and her late husband Dale, Mary Turner and her former husband Paul Turner (deceased), Dorothy Piatt and her late husband Bill, Nancy David and her late husband Lowell, And Alice Phipps.
A celebration of his life and faith will be held at 1:00 pm on Thursday, January 22, 2026, at Appalachian Funeral Home with Pastor Steve Lyons, officiating. There will be a private graveside service following in Roselawn Memorial Park.
In-lieu-of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to, Shriners Children's at donate.shrinerschildrens.org in honor of a life devoted to the Lord.
