James W. Piper, 70, of Wellman, passed from this life on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, at Parkview Manor in Wellman. His life will be celebrated Saturday, May 24, 2025, at 10:00 AM at the First Mennonite Church in Iowa City. The service will be available via Livestream at the Beatty Peterseim Facebook and YouTube pages. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the First Mennonite Church of Iowa City. The Beatty Peterseim Funeral Home is assisting the family.
James Wilbur Piper was born April 16, 1954, in Iowa City, the son of Elmo and Edith (Kauffman) Piper. He worked as a finish carpenter and cabinet maker most of his life. He served as a Trustee at First Mennonite Church in Iowa City for many years helping to maintain the property. James enjoyed doing puzzles in the newspaper and singing at church. He graduated from the University of Iowa with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. His artistry was shown in his work with wood, his drawings, sculptures and paintings.
Survivors include two children: Nathan Piper of Oxford, IA, Sarah Piper of Austin, TX, grandchild: Savannah Zorn, one sister: Ruth Peterson of Kalona and two brothers: Ron Piper of Harrisonburg, VA and Phil Piper of Angleton, TX
Preceding James in death were his parents, his daughter Gretchen Piper and brother Larry Piper.
