Sandra Campbell

Sandra Campbell, age 74, passed away from complications associated with aortic aneurysm dissection on Wednesday March 18, 2026, at the Methodist Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa, which is the hospital where both of her sons were born. She was born on September 26, 1951, in Renwick Iowa, the daughter of Elmo and Marian Klassie Arne. Sandy graduated from Boone Valley High School in 1969 and from the University of Iowa in 1974. While in Iowa City she met Les Kitzman and they married and moved to the family farm in Gibson, Iowa. After a divorce Sandy moved to Oskaloosa and met BG. They moved to Des Moines and were married at St Luke's Episcopal Church, and to this union two sons were born, Peter and Ben. In Des Moines Sandy helped run a small direct mail order and publishing business with her husband and she also managed a bookstore at Valley West Mall. They remained in Des Moines for 14 years before moving to Gulf Shores, AL, where her two sons both graduated from high school and college while down South. Sandy and BG moved to Oskaloosa in 2010 and retired soon thereafter.

Sandy enjoyed reading, sewing, quilt making, embroidery, painting and interior decorating in her own home.

She is survived by her husband BG Campbell of Oskaloosa and sons Peter Campbell of Des Moines and Ben (Rachel) Campbell of Atlanta, GA; two grandchildren, Rory age 2 and Isla age 4 months and sister Barbara (Bob) Harvey plus many nieces and nephews.

Sandra was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, David and a sister, Carol.

As was her wish, cremation will take place and there are no formal services planned at this time. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the Stephen Animal Shelter or St. James Episcopal Church in Oskaloosa.
