James Piren Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Martinez-Morse Funeral Home - Middletown on Mar. 12, 2022.
James C. Piren, beloved partner, son, brother and father, passed away unexpectedly in his home on March 10, 2022 in Poughkeepsie, NY. Born in Brooklyn, NY on November 15, 1964, he graduated Bishop Ford high school in 1982. From a young age, teachers thought of him as a sensitive and creative soul. Following high school, he joined the police academy in 1987 and worked at Manhattan's Midtown South Precinct from 1988-2008. He received the Medal for Valor in 1995 and was a first responder during the tragic events of 9/11 and its aftermath. Following his retirement from the NYPD, he went back to school at Sullivan County Community College to become a Registered Nurse. His career as an RN was devoted to working in hospice and behavioral health. James was a proud union representative for 1199. James was loved by many for his quirky sense of humor and patient ability to listen and understand the problems of others. Jim had many interests including an interest in cameras, watches, cars, boats, cooking and music.
James will be undergoing a private, eco-friendly green burial to honor his wishes with only his immediate family. Due to the nature of his natural burial and lack of a viewing/wake, the family is asking to please not send flowers.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Sullivan County SPCA or to the following charities to assist in Ukrainian relief efforts:
