James Porter Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by A Sacred Choice - Houston on Feb. 25, 2026.
James Martin "Marty" Porter, 65, passed away on February 20, 2026, after a courageous battle with colon cancer.

Marty was born on May 6, 1960, in Natchez, Mississippi, to Jeannie Poole and James Porter Sr. He was a devoted family man who spent his life putting the needs of others before his own. A big helper by nature, Marty was always there when someone needed a hand, and he never hesitated to step up for the people he loved.

He found peace in fishing and enjoyed the simple moments it gave him-quiet mornings, time outdoors, and the chance to unwind. Those who knew Marty will always remember how he put others first, how he showed up without being asked, and how he gave of himself freely.

He was the beloved husband of the late Deanna Porter, with whom he shared nearly 40 years of marriage. Marty was a proud and loving father to Daniel Porter and Kyle Porter, and a devoted grandfather to Lucy, Brynley, Shane, and Sydney, who brought him endless joy.

A brief celebration of life will be held on March 14th from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at 4910 Willowbend Blvd., Suite F, Houston, TX 77035.

Marty will be remembered for his selflessness, his steady kindness, and the way he put those he loved first in everything he did. His legacy lives on in the family he cherished so deeply, and he will be profoundly missed by all who knew him.
