Funeral service for James Ray Prater, 84, will be Thursday, January 16, 2025 at 2:30 PM at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Francis Proctor and Bro. Jonathan Proctor officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial will be in Friendship (South of Danville) Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, January 15, 2025 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Peck Funeral Home.
Mr. Prater died on Sunday, January 12, 2025 at his residence. He was born September 20, 1940, in Lawrence County, to Lucian Prater and Lodine Walker Prater, who preceded him in death.
He was employed by Ford Motor Company as an assembly line worker, prior to his retirement. He loved Alabama football, making people laugh, and his favorite hobbies were fishing, ginseng hunting, and loved going to Tunica. He also loved going across the Tennessee line. Mr. Prater loved everyone and enjoyed canning fruits and vegetables.
Also preceding him in death were his wife of 39 years- Norma Lee Dobbins Prater, and a son- James Jeffery Prater.
Survivors include
Son - Paul Prater (Cindy)
Daughter - Lisa Turrentine (James)
Brother - Scotty Prater (Cathy)
Sisters - Silvia Proctor (Francis)
Nancy Weaver (Herman)
Carolyn Archer (David)
Grandchildren - Brandon Turrentine (Brittany) and Bayley Jones (Matthew)
Great Grandchildren - Hagen Turrentine, Hadley Turrentine II, and Grady Jones
Pallbearers will be Stephen Proctor, Timothy Proctor, Todd Kelsoe, Danny Lee, Johnny White and David Archer.
