James “Jim” H. Puckett, a dedicated husband, loving father, and cherished Papaw, passed away in Fairland at the age of 92 on February 29th, 2024. He was born on November 16, 1931, in Munfordville, Kentucky, to his parents William Walton and Ivy Lela Puckett. On chance meeting while hanging out at the drive-in with her brother, James met the love of his life Alice “Mitzi” LaVerne Meredith. They were married in 1954 and spent 57 wonderful years together.

James led a remarkable life filled with diverse experiences. Growing up, he worked with his father farming tobacco and corn. His career journey led him to drive an egg hatchery truck and work with the Agriculture Alumni Association to develop essential crop seeds. For two years, James served in the Army – a testament to his commitment to his country.
Beyond his professional endeavors, James and Mitzi found joy in giving back to the community by providing bowling lessons to elementary school children for two decades. He loved watching the Pacers and Indianapolis Colts in the comfort of his home.

In the hearts of many, James will be remembered not only for his accomplishments, but for the kind and caring person he was. He touched the lives of his family members deeply and leaves behind a legacy of love and fond memories. 

He is survived by; his sons Frank (Bettina), and David (Amber); grandchildren Lewana Elliott, Heather Fincher (Zack), Lela Salter (Tracy), Kali Williams (Brad), David “Jimmy” Puckett and Danny Puckett; as well as numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

James is preceded in death by his beloved wife “Mitzi”, brothers Herbert, Eddie, Homer, Carrol, Leon, and Johnny; sisters Mae McCubbin and Mary Sturgeon; and parents William Walton and Ivy Lela Puckett.

The Pall Bearers that will assist James into his final resting place: Kyle Salter, Brad Williams, Tracy Salter, Zack Fincher, Isac Benner, Nathan Benner 

James H. Puckett's life will be celebrated at Washington Park East in Indianapolis on March 7th. A visitation will take place from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM followed by a Funeral Service at 1:00 PM followed by a graveside military service at 2:00 P.M.
