James Quinn Obituary

September 5, 1952 - November 4, 2025| James V. Quinn, 73, of Little Compton, died of pancreatic cancer on Tuesday, Nov. 4, in Rhode Island Hospital. Born on Sept. 5, 1952, he grew up in Pawtucket and spent summers in Little Compton starting at the age of six.

Education was a lifelong passion. In 1975, James received his undergraduate degree in zoology at the University of Rhode Island. His master's degree in physiology followed at the Medical College of Virginia. When he was 42 years old, he enrolled in Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, where he graduated in 2000. He interned at Memorial Hospital of Rhode Island and completed his residency in internal medicine at Greenwich Hospital in Connecticut.

He was board certified in internal medicine and practiced for 20 years, focusing on adult primary care. In addition to his role as an attending physician at Saint Anne's Hospital Primary Care, over the last decade he was the medical director for Adams House, Brandon Woods of Dartmouth, Continuum Care of MA, Healthfirst Family Care, Nemasket Healthcare Center, and the Residence at Cedar Dell, among other facilities.

Jim (his Little Compton friends would never think of him as ""James"") was happiest in and on the water. He was an avid and accomplished swimmer; in 1982, he completed ""Swim the Bay,"" the two-mile open-water race across Narragansett Bay from Newport to Jamestown. He was an ardent surfer and often made a point of surfing on Christmas Day (consider the air and water temperatures!). In recent years, he enjoyed fishing, both here and in Florida.

James was the son of the late Vincent P. Quinn and Lillian (Gorey) Quinn. He is survived by his wife Diane and his brother Daniel P. Quinn of Rotonda West, Fla.

Visiting hours will be held Friday, Nov. 14, 2025, from 2 to 5 p.m. at Fern Acres Funeral Home, 72 Willow Ave., Little Compton, R.I., where Diane and Dan hope you will share your memories of Jim with all those present.

Relatives and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, Nov. 15, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Saint Catherine of Siena Church, 74 Simmons Road, Little Compton, followed by interment at Our Lady of Fatima Cemetery.
