James "Jim" R. Rice

May 8, 1940-November 20, 2022

ANDALUSIA-James "Jim" R. Rice, 82, of Andalusia passed away on Sunday, November 20, 2022 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Monday at Edgewood Baptist Church, Rock Island. Visitation will be from 1:00 to 3:30 pm on Sunday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Milan. Burial with military honors will be in Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. Memorials may be made in care of the family.

Jim was born on May 8, 1940 in Elderd, IL, a son of William and Juanita (Henson) Rice. He served in the United States Army from 1962 to 1965. Jim married Sharon Laing on May 21st, 1966 at Red Oak Presbyterian Church in Tipton, IA. He worked in various capacities for John Deere over 35 years, including landscaping and production at Harvester Works. He was also a talented handyman and a trained locksmith.

Jim truly enjoyed working outside, tinkering with things, golfing, fishing, and his bowling league. He was a member of Edgewood Baptist Church in Rock Island for over 50 years. Jim was very active in his church, serving as a deacon, Awana leader, and trustee over the years.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Sharon, Andalusia; daughters, Karyn (Mike) Fulton, Lone Tree, IA and Teresa (Scott) White, Colona, IL; grandchildren, Kyle White, Milan and Kyra White, Colona; and brother, Ken Rice, Macomb, IL.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Peggy Heedley and Linda Birdsong.
