James Richey, age 61, of Elizabeth City, NC, died unexpectantly at Sentara Albemarle Medical Center on Friday, August 29, 2025. He was born in Greenbush, IL to the late Charles Albert Richey, Sr. and Phyllis Louise Cook Richey. James was the husband to Patricia Hewitt Richey. A valued member of his community, he leaves behind a legacy that will be fondly remembered by his loved ones and all who had the privilege of knowing him. James was an RV Technician, who demonstrated a profound commitment to his profession. He attended Ramoth Gilead Baptist Church, was a Mason at New Lebanon Lodge Chapter #314 and a member of Eastern Star Chapter #44.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters, Krista Barchi of NC, Andria Matthews of AK, and Elizabeth Carter of WV; his sons, Salvatore Barchi (Arcybelle) of VA, William Richey and Tyler Richey, both of WV; his sisters, Pam Gaitley of GA and Becky Boyd of VA; his brother, Larry Vogler (Joann) of VA; and seven grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Sherry Vogler, and brothers, Michael "Kimbob" Riche, 2520 and Charles Albert Richey, Jr.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Children's Organ Transplant Association (COTA), 2501 Cota Drive, Bloomington, IN 47403 or at https://cota.org.
