James Riker Obituary

James Elwin Riker Jr.

April 7, 1979 - January 9, 2025

Lexington, Kentucky - James E. Riker Jr. "Jimmy" passed away on January 9, 2025 at age 45 after a long and courageous battle with a chronic illness. Jimmy was an alum of Henry Clay High School, attended Lexington Community College, and earned his associate's degree from Full Sail University. He was a proud member of the marching band drumlines for both Henry Clay High School and the University of Kentucky.

He will forever be remembered for his quick wit, magnetic charm, fantastic hair, and inability to be wrong. He loved his friends fiercely, and their animals even more. He is preceded in death by his father, James. E. Riker Sr., his grandparents, his beloved dog Tucker Rebar Riker, and several close friends that wait to welcome him.

Jimmy was a career professional of the hospitality, food and beverage industry and proudly held himself (and others) to the highest standards of service. A fixture of the downtown community, he was quick to offer a perfect pour, a clever joke, or a listening ear. His passion for his craft and commitment to excellence touched the lives of countless patrons and colleagues over the years.

He is survived by his loving mother, Carol Riker, and pup Kara Bean. He leaves behind a piece of himself in each of us who feel this profound loss.

A celebration of Jimmy's life will be held on Saturday, January 18th at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home, 3421 Harrodsburg Rd, Lexington, KY 40513. Visitation will be from 12 - 2pm followed by a memorial service at 2pm.

Because of his deep love for all animals, in lieu of flowers we kindly request donations be made in his honor to the Lexington Humane Society.

Jimmy was the funniest co worker i have ever worked with. He was such a loving down to earth guy but always had something quick to say! He was so funny and could cheer me up with just one look. He took me in while he was training me and we became close- almost like family. I will always remember jimmy and the funny things he would tell me. He was an honest man and was a very intellectual person. He was so good to talk to and would give the best advice. I will miss him very much and will always think about him while I do puzzles.

Jimmy was a wonderful young man who was always very helpful and a true gentleman. He was a valuable and contributing member of Henry Clay High School and a great neighbor to me. Jimmy often my helped care for my dogs. I spent many great evenings having dinner with Jimmy, as well as his mom and dad. He was just as hospitable as his terrific mother. Jimmy will be missed by all who knew him well. R.I.P. my dear friend and I hope to meet you in the great beyond.
