James Michael Roseboom Sr., 70, of Smyrna, Delaware, passed away on September 23, 2025, in Kent-Bayhealth Hospital in Dover due to complications of pneumonia and COPD.

He was born to parents Kenneth Jay and Agnes (O'Halloran) Roseboom on May 10, 1955, in Mary Immaculate Hospital in Jamaica, NY. He was raised in Inwood, NY. James graduated from Lawrence High School in Cedarhurst, NY and was on the track team. James was the oldest of 3 children. He cherished his youth growing up with his younger siblings, Donna and Kenneth Edmond.

He also studied Mechanical Engineering at Manhattan College and ran cross-country. He married Martha Guadalupe Bermeo, and they lived in Ozone Park, NY with the Bermeo family, always close by.

He was a devoted son, big brother, and father to his sons James Jr., Jonathan, and adopted Luis Batista as his own. He had a big heart to care for everyone fortunate enough to have known him.

James loved all kinds of music - from Country to Classic Rock to Jazz. His favorite pastimes were listening to music from his record collection, singing karaoke and playing the trumpet. James was a devout Catholic and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was drawn to the mission of helping those less fortunate, especially after the help they provided to him after his managed Schizophrenia diagnosis. He also was a faithful supporter of the Gary Sinise foundation.

James was an avid runner. He accomplished many race benchmarks including several marathons with the New York Road Runners Club. His love of the outdoors and simply finding peace on a long run in nature was characteristics he instilled in his children and grandchildren. He was anxiously waiting to begin his training again after his spinal fusion surgery in November.

James had a passion for sports and teaching. His friends and family always thought he would make a perfect gym teacher.

His calm and relaxed nature will be dearly missed by all that knew him.

James was preceded in death by his father Kenneth Jay Roseboom.

He is survived by his loving girlfriend, Marcia Daniels; who he was hoping to soon make his wife; his three sons; his mother, Agnes; his sister, Donna; his brother-in-law Frank; his nieces, Amanda, Megan, Jessica, Melissa, Kenna, Pam, Alina, Ava; and his nephews Frankie, Gavin, Anthony, Theo, Conrad, Vincent Roseboom and Vincent Sincero.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Celebration of Life service for James on Saturday, Oct 4 at 1:00pm at Krienen-Griffith Funeral Home, 1400 Kirkwood Hwy., Wilm., DE 19805. Friends may call at the funeral home from 12:00pm-1:00pm. Interment will be private.
