Funeral services for Mr. James B. Ross, 86, of Henderson, will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, in the chapel at Crawford-A. Crim Funeral Home with Dr. David Higgs and Steven Haney officiating. Interment will follow at Strong Cemetery under the direction of Crawford-A. Crim Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 PM until service time on Wednesday, at the funeral home.
Mr. Ross passed from this life to his home in Heaven on January 16, 2026, in Jacksonville. He was born October 24, 1939, in Henderson to the late Dr. Jesse E. Ross and Opal (Wilhite) Ross. James graduated from Henderson High School and was a proud Lion his whole life. He then attended and graduated from Stephen F. Austin State University with his Bachelor's degree before heading to the University of Texas to become a pharmacist. James was a forever Longhorn and could talk Longhorn football with anyone as often as they could and would. Mr. Ross then dedicated his life to helping his community through service as a pharmacist and retired from Eckerds Drugs.
He was a devoted husband to Sara for 57 years and a loving father to Jim and Jana. James was the best grandfather and loved his great-grands so very much. He loved his goats and four wheelers and took great care of both as well as the farm. Most of all, Mr. Ross was a man of strong faith and loved Jesus. He was a life-long member of First Baptist Church of Henderson where he taught Sunday School, volunteered as a driver and with the youth, and he also enjoyed visiting and worshipping at Ebenezer Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents and his beloved Sara, he was preceded in death by his son Jim Ross.
Survivors include his daughter Jana Ross Enloe and husband Johney of Henderson; grandchildren Savanna Hudspeth and husband Joshua of Longview, Ty Landrum and wife Kiera of Caldwell, Bristyn Enloe and Kierstyn Enloe of Henderson, Malea Muller and husband Nick of Midlothian, and Bailey Enloe and fiancé Trent Rogers of Lindale; great-grandchildren Layton, Marsali, Ella, Nathaniel, Naomi, and Miles; cousins Mary Ann Graham and C.J. Carnes; as well as a host of other family and friends. The family would also like to express their sincere gratitude and appreciation to Kevin Freeny, the caregivers of Happy At Home and the ICU staff at UT Health Jacksonville.
Pallbearers will be Kevin Freeny, Burl Richards, Rusty Phenix, Don Ross, Tommy Strong, Edgar Sanchez, and Greg Gibson. Honorary pallbearers will be Johney Enloe, Ty Landrum, Joshua Hudspeth, Stoney Lake, David Powell, Dr. John Clague, Dr. Roger Sessions, and Stephen Strong.
