James Roy Obituary
Claremont, NH — James R Roy, 66, of 93 Sullivan Street in Claremont died unexpectedly on May 16.
He was born in Berlin NH on April 27, 1956, the son of Donald and Doris (Jutras) Roy. The family moved to Claremont in 1963, and Jim attended St Mary Grammar school and La Salette Seminary in Enfield NH before graduating from Stevens High School in 1974. Jim was active in sports year-round as a student, excelling at hockey, baseball and soccer at La Salette and Stevens.
Jim was a jack of all trades after graduation, collecting lifelong friendships and collaborations as he tried his hand at various vocations including train conductor, roofing foreman, factory worker and construction laborer.
In 1994 Jim received a degree from Hudson Valley College's school of Mortuary Science and took over operation of the Roy Funeral Home from his father Donald, who retired in 1996.
Jim was an avid sportsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and any type of outdoor activities. He loved animals and was very fond of his "grand dogs". He was a member of the Elks, and an honorary lifetime member of the American Legion. Jim was a master of the inappropriate joke and beloved by his friends for his exhaustive collection of humorous stories. He delighted in sharing celebrations and was known for his special wardrobe for every holiday. Jim took great joy in his many friendships and shared summers at his beloved Loon Lake campground. He will be remembered for his generosity of spirit, kindness and camaraderie.
Jim is survived by his wife of ten years Lori, daughter Michelle and her partner Greg Kloosterman of Canonsburg PA, daughter Kayla Roy and grandson Mason Leoutsakos of Claremont, son Nick Roy and his fiancé Stefanie Glimenakis of Mt Juliet TN, and daughter Hayleigh Roy of Claremont. He leaves a brother, Jon Roy and his wife Sheila Pierson-Roy of Strafford NH, and their sons Benjamin and wife Kate Roy of Beverly MA, and Timothy and wife Amber of Barrington NH. Additional family include Lori's children Jordan Schucart and Zach Schucart and his wife Jillian and daughter Leah.
Calling hours will be hosted by the Newton-Bartlett Funeral Home at the Roy Funeral Home site at 93 Sullivan Street in Claremont. Friends may call from 5:00 - 8:00 pm on Friday, May 20. Funeral will also be held at the Roy Funeral Home on Saturday, May 21 at 10:00. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Turning Points Network 11 School Street Claremont NH 03743.

Just learned this sad news. Jim made the difficult time of losing my father easier with his kindness and compassion. I will always remember him fondly for that. Very sorry to learn the news of his passing. The world needs more people with his qualities. I only met him a few times but he had a lasting impact on me. JIm was a classmate, though I did not know him well in HS, I got to know him much better and later in life. He was instrumental in bringing the class of 74 closer together hosting us several times at his camp on Loon Lake over the years. Precious memories were created there. Jim's stories and jokes around the firepit were the centerpiece of our gatherings and we could never repay him for his kindness and genorosity. We will never forget this man who along with Lori made sure we always had a good day. As you pass into the loving hands of our creator, Amorn and I send our deepest sympathies to the Roy family. Know too, all of us in the class of 74 will never forget you.
