James Rulison Obituary

Rulison, James "Jim"
GLENVILLE - James "Jim" Rulison, age 75, of Glenville, N.Y., passed away peacefully on February 17, 2025. Known for never sitting still, Jim was always thinking up new ideas of what project to tackle next.
Born in Albany on June 7, 1949, to the late Robert and Marjorie (Havnen) Rulison, Jim spent his life moving-whether on two wheels, four wheels, or with his hands full of tools.
Jim graduated from Guilderland Central High School in 1967 and earned his bachelor's degree from Doane University in 1972. Jim worked for the NYS Office of Parks and Recreation for over 30 years, retiring in 2005 as Director of Human Resource Management.
If it happened outdoors, Jim was in-whether motorcycling, downhill skiing, boating, camping, or bicycling, outdoors was where you'd find him alongside close friends and family. Jim was a long-time member of the Out of Control Ski Club and the Burnt Hills United Methodist Church. It was through the ski club that he met his wife, Linda, whom he married on July 26, 1975.
Jim had a servant's heart, volunteering with numerous organizations in his lifetime, including the Burnt Hills Rowing Association, NYS Retired Public Employees Association (RPEA), Glen Hills Swim Club, Glenville Senior and Toys for Tots.
Jim was predeceased by his parents; and older brother, Robert. He is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years, Linda; daughter, Kelly (Mike Rex); son, Kristopher (Michelle); five grandchildren, Katherine, Michael, Andrew, Emily and Thomas; sister, Shari (Ron) Keller, and a large extended family.
Family and friends are cordially invited to call on Monday, February 24, from 4 to 6 p.m., at Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Rd., Scotia, N.Y. 12302. A funeral service will be celebrated at 11 a.m., on Tuesday, February 25, at the Glenville Funeral Home, followed immediately by interment at Memory Gardens, in Colonie, N.Y. For those who wish to attend the graveside service, please meet at the front entrance of the cemetery at 1 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jim's name to the Burnt Hills Rowing Association (https://www.bhrow.com/donate/) or the Doane University Class of 1972 Memorial Scholarship fund (https://web.doane.edu/giving/ways-to-give).

We worked with Jim for over 20 years at NY Parks. He was a very hard worker and knew the State personnel system forwards and backwards. He, also, went out of his way to make the office a fun and welcoming place. We are very sorry to hear of his passing and offer sincere condolences to Lin and family. RIP Jim. You were one of the good guys.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Linda and all of Jim's family. Jim was a good friend. We shared days of highschool track together and worked on some joint highschool reunions between our two graduation years. Jim was a great take charge kind of guy and served our local chapter of RPEA as chairperson. He will truly be missed.

My condolences to Jim's family. I knew him from the OC's and volleyball. He was a man of many interests and always had entertaining stories to tell of his many life experiences. He was a great guy and will be missed.

Jim was a good friend in high school and we would contact each other over the years. The last few years we would see each other at the classic car shows and have lunch or dinner once in a while. It was always a pleasure to see him and the conversations were wide ranging and fun. Jim I´m already missing you my friend. Linda to you and the family my sincerest condolences. He is truly a special guy.

Jim and I ran around the neighborhood as young children. He was the first boy I ever kissed, in an experimental manner of course. He grew up to be an admirable human who stayed positive and joyful through the din life throws our way. I will always smile when I remember Jim. My best to the family he loved so well.
