James Earl Saegert, aged 88, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, at New Life Hospice Center in Lorain. Born on September 9, 1935, in Elyria, Ohio, he was the beloved son of Carl Augustus and Florence Bertha (nee White) Saegert.
James attended Lorain High School and went on to serve his country with honor. He enlisted in the United States Marines on February 9, 1953, achieving the rank of Corporal. His service was distinguished by several commendations, including the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal, and the United Nations Service Medal. He was honorably discharged on September 9, 1955.
After his military service, James dedicated 42 years of his professional life as an assembler at TRW-Nelson Stud Division, retiring in 1997. Beyond his work, he was an avid bowler, participating in numerous leagues and sharing his passion as a certified bowling coach.
James had a zest for life, enjoying various hobbies such as fishing, roller skating, gardening, and car enthusiast. Known for always having the clearest water in his pool, he was also a great fan of Hank Williams Sr. and loved planning family vacations. His family was always his top priority, and he cherished every moment spent with them.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 62 years, Goldie (nee Koltas); his son Bradley (Melody) Saegert; his daughter Tricia (Scott) Barnes; his grandchildren Kevin, Kirsten, and Raeann; his great-grandson Jerry; and his brother Dale Saegert. James was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Florence Saegert; step-father, George Yepko; and his siblings, Carl, Gene, Eddie, and Carol Ann Saegert.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, from 2:00 - 5:00 p.m. at the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. Funeral services will follow the visitation at 5:00 p.m. at the funeral center. A private family interment will take place at a later date.

James Earl Saegert will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his country, and his many passions. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
