James W. Schaer, Sr., 89 of North Lawrence, passed away Tuesday, October 7, 2025. A life resident of North Lawrence, he was born February 14, 1936 to the late Edward and Alice (Schilling) Schaer and retired from Republic Steel after 30 years of service.
Jim was a loving husband, dad and grandpa and loved spending time with his family especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Jim also enjoyed fishing, hunting, taking trips to Canada, farming and gardening.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his great-grandson, Aden Abraham; sisters, Anna Mae Hershey, Dorothy Clark, Netty Fogle, and Mary Casto; brothers, Bob Schaer and Ernie Schaer.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Nancy (Wadian) Schaer; children, James (Jyl) Schaer, Jr. and Deborah (Bob) Zimmerly; grandchildren, Matt (Lauren) Zimmerly, Kyle (Heather) Zimmerly, Nick (Anna) Abraham, Ashley (Andrew) Richardson and Jessica Schaer; great-grandchildren, Mattix, Zoey, Nora, Enzo and James on the way; sisters, Lucille Weisgarber and Helen Singer; numerous nieces and nephews.
Calling Hours will be held SATURDAY, October 11, 2025, 2:00pm to 4:00pm at the Swigart-Easterling Funeral Home, 624 Cherry St. E. (Rt. 93) Canal Fulton. A funeral service will immediately follow at 4pm. Private burial at Newmans Creek Cemetery.
