James F. Schembri
September 24, 1934 – December 29, 2025
James F. Schembri passed away peacefully on December 29, 2025, at his home in Scottsdale, Arizona, surrounded by his family. He was 91 years old. Born on September 24, 1934, in Detroit, Michigan, Jim lived a full and meaningful life marked by devotion to his family, enduring friendships, and a quiet, strong faith that guided him throughout his life. His faith was lived humbly and consistently, reflected in his integrity, kindness, and steady presence rather than words.
James is survived by his beloved wife, MaryEllen Schembri; his children, Nicholas Schembri, Sean Smiddy, Kevin Smiddy, Colin Smiddy, and Erin Smiddy; and his cherished grandchildren, Keegan Smiddy, Mia Schembri, Meghann Smiddy, Nina Schembri,
Samantha Smiddy, Clint Smiddy, Jarrin Smiddy, Dylan Smiddy, and Wyatt Smiddy. He is also survived by a host of extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Nicholas and Valentina Schembri; his first wife, E. Joan Schembri; his daughter, Erin Schembri; and his siblings, Andy Schembri and Elizabeth Hallowell.
Jim enjoyed a very successful career as a mechanical engineer. He had a lifelong passion for golf and spent many glorious years as a self-described "ski bum." Throughout his life, Jim was also devoted to numerous charitable organizations focused on advancing equity-a commitment that reflected his deep belief in fairness, dignity, and opportunity for all.
Jim will be remembered for his quiet strength, steadfast faith, generosity of spirit, and unwavering love for his family. His life was truly one well lived, and his memory will continue to guide and comfort all who knew and loved him.
The family is planning a memorial service to celebrate the life of James F. Schembri in Michigan in early summer 2026. Details will be shared at a later date.
