Cotter Funeral & Cremation Care - De PereJames (Jim) Schumerth, age 94, of De Pere, passed away on February 3, 2026. The son of the late Joseph and Loretta (Ehnerd) Schumerth was born on December 17, 1931.
Jim served his country during the Korean Conflict in the US Army from 1951-1953. He married Eva Aerts on April 28, 1956.
Jim was a familiar and friendly face in De Pere, both through his work and his devout faith. He dedicated 32 years to the U.S. Postal Service, serving as Postmaster in De Pere for 18 of those years. A lifelong resident, he remained deeply rooted in his community and was a devoted member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church.
Jim led an active life enjoying baseball, golf, biking, cards, travel and family. After retiring from the Postal Service, he worked part-time for Schroeder’s Floral for 20 years. Jim and Eva wintered in Florida for many years.
He was a diehard Cubs fan!
He is survived by his children Cindy Luce, Peggy Velicer, and Andrew (Sara) Schumerth. His seven grandchildren include: Kit (Jenna) Lasee, Zackary (Iesha) Luce, Samuel (Brittany) Luce, Jenny (Luke) Weichelt, Nicholas (Julie) Schubach, Leah (Jake Hustad) Schumerth, and Dominic (Sophie Pirkey) Schumerth. He has 16 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. He has one surviving sister-in-law, Shirley Aerts.
Jim was predeceased by his wife Eva, brother Robert and sister Noma Jame Kolb.
Family and friends may visit at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 220 S. Michigan St., De Pere, on Friday, February 13, 2026, from 10:00 am until 10:45 am. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Jim at 11:00 am with Rev. Jason Blahnik, officiating. Interment at Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemetery. Cotter Funeral and Cremation Care is assisting the family with arrangements.
