A Funeral Mass for James Otto Schwarm, age 90, of
Granville, Ohio, will be held at St. Edward the Confessor Catholic Church, 11 A.M., Tuesday, January 13, 2026, with Msgr. Paul Enke as celebrant.
James "Jim" Schwarm, a proud United States Army veteran, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 18, 2025, at Johnstown Pointe. He was born on August 24, 1935, in
Detroit, Michigan, to the late Otto and Viola (Oaks) Schwarm.
Jim graduated from East Detroit High School in 1953 and went on to serve his country in the United States Army, where he worked in the Nike missile division. Following his military service, he began a long and fulfilling career in the automotive industry. In 1955, Jim joined the Chrysler Corporation in Detroit, spending 18 years advancing through the Sales Division.
In 1974, Jim was selected for Chrysler's Dealer Development Program. After careful consideration, he chose a dealership location in Heath, Ohio-drawn by the people and the strong sense of community. This decision would shape the remainder of his life and career. In 1976, Jim and his family moved to
Granville, Ohio, where Newark Chrysler Plymouth-later Tri-County Chrysler Dodge Jeep-was established.
Jim devoted 44 years to the dealership, working tirelessly until its sale in 2020. He was deeply committed to his employees, always making time to listen, mentor, and support them through life's challenges. Jim never met a stranger and was well known for his storytelling and warm sense of humor-qualities that endeared him to everyone he met. Under his leadership, Tri-County proudly supported countless local teams and charitable organizations, reflecting Jim's unwavering dedication to the community he loved.
Jim's greatest joys were his family, traveling the world, and spending time at his home on Kiawah Island, South Carolina. His greatest passion was golf. He was a member of Moundbuilders Country Club for 30 years and a member of The River Course, Cassique, and The Governors Club on Kiawah Island for more than 20 years. From the tee box, Jim rarely missed a fairway.
A devoted man of faith, Jim was a 49-year member and generous supporter of St. Edward the Confessor Catholic Church in Granville and a member of Holy Spirit Church on Johns Island, South Carolina. In his later years, he volunteered with St. Vincent de Paul in Newark.
Jim will be deeply missed by his beloved wife of 68 years, Elaine (Bisesi) Schwarm, his guiding light and great love. The family affectionately referred to them as "the two Detroit lovebirds." He is also survived by his sons, Thomas (Kathleen) Schwarm and Timothy (Ellen) Schwarm; his grandsons, Jacob and Holt; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Larry and Gerry Cherry; and his nieces and nephew, Diane, Michelle, Cheryl, and Greg.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his brother, Robert and his son, Jeffrey.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions in Jim's name be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Center, 135 Wilson Street,
Newark, Ohio.
