James Schweitzer Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Mickelson Funeral & Cremation Service, Inc. on Jan. 23, 2026.
James D. "Jimmy" Schweitzer, age 59, of Shawano, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday morning, January 22, 2026, at ThedaCare in Neenah.

Jimmy was born December 21, 1966, in New London, Wisconsin, a son of the late Harold C. and Rita A. (Balthazor) Schweitzer. He attended New London schools and graduated with the Class of 1984. Following high school, Jimmy farmed to the land. He was always a farmer.

On June 10, 1988, he married the love of his life, the former Patty A. DeBruin at St. Edward Catholic Church in Mackville. Together, they purchased their first farm in Iola and went on to own and operate numerous farms throughout Wisconsin. In 2013, they purchased The South Forty, which they owned and operated for six years. Patty preceded him in death in 2019, and Jimmy was never the same after her passing.

For the past five years, Jimmy worked as a truck driver for United Cooperative. A great storyteller, he was known for his "whoppers" while always keeping the facts straight. Jimmy was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and caring for his animals. He especially cherished trips out west, always with Patty in tow.

Jimmy leaves his daughter, Holly Ann Schweitzer of Madison; brother, Charlie Schweitzer of Symco; and special nephew, Levi DeBruin. He is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Jimmy was preceded in death by his twin sister, Mary Beth Schweitzer; sister, Kathy Free; and two brothers, Leon and Ken Schweitzer.

A funeral service for James D. Schweitzer will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at 12:00 pm at Mickelson Funeral Service in Shawano. Visitation will begin at the funeral home on Saturday at 9:00 am and continue until the time of service.
