James Alan Scott, age 82 of Summerfield, Kansas, passed away Saturday, December 13, 2025, at the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska.

He was born on October 10, 1943, in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Elmer Scott and Harriet (Sharpe) Winquist.

On July 28, 1963, he married Sherry Ann Mitchell in Summerfield. She survives the home.

James worked in Summerfield, Wichita, Marysville and Fairbury before opening Scott Electronics. He spent fifteen years serving the surrounding communities working on televisions and stereos. In 1989, they moved to Colorado where they spent four years flipping homes. In 1993, they decided to move to Colby KS to be closer to their daughters where they owned and operated a tree farm. They returned to Summerfield in 1996. Jim was active in the community. He served on the city council and was always willing to lend a helping hand. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church. He was a car enthusiast, enjoyed woodworking, mowing, and playing pool. Most of all, he cherished the time he spent with his family.

In addition to his wife Sherry, he is survived by two daughters, Deborah Dressman (David) of Alta Vista and Dawn Scott (William Denton) of Abilene; one sister, Sharon Polson of Vermillion; four grandchildren, Kaeyla Keating (Roger O’Neill), Casey Keating (Mandy), Jackie Denton, and Kristy Easterberg (Colton), and one great granddaughter, RaeLyne Easterberg.

He was preceded in death by his parents and stepfather, Carl Winquist.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 until 7:00 pm Thursday, December 18, 2025, at the First Lutheran Church, 305 Front Street, Summerfield, Kansas.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm Friday, December 19, 2025, at the First Lutheran Church in Summerfield. Burial will follow at the Summerfield Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Sherry Scott and left in care of the Christie-Anderes Funeral Home, PO Box 61, Waterville, Kansas 66548.
