James Henry Sery Sr.

James H. Sery, Sr., age 77, of Mustang, OK, passed away on Sunday, November 16, 2025.
We take comfort in the notion that Jim re-joined his wife of 54 years, who passed away in April. They met at the University of Wisconsin – Whitewater and spent their free time traveling and exploring the United States. Throughout their lives, they visited every US state with their favorite being Alaska. Jim also loved trains and many of their later trips included riding and learning about different types of trains.
At home, Jim enjoyed reading, cheering on the Green Bay Packers, working in his garden, and cooking. After retiring from his "first career" as an accountant, he attended OSU-Okmulgee and graduated with a degree in Culinary Arts. He worked as a chef at Mid-America Christian University, Southern Nazarene University, and Western Heights Public School District. He also cooked for several council-wide Girl Scout events, with his wife as his sous chef. Cooking was his passion, and he shared that passion with everyone around him. Food is love.
Jim is survived by his son, Jim Sery Jr. of Oklahoma City; daughter, Zada Sery (Ryan Tucker) of Norman; grandchildren, Emma Sery, Thomas Tucker, and MaryAlice Tucker. He is also survived by his brother Will Sery (Jill) as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins across the country.
The family will host a celebration of life event for both Jim and Linda "Zada" Sery in March 2026. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to OklahomaRailwayMuseum.org or your local food bank.
