Funeral services for James Monroe Sewell. 90, are scheduled for 11am Saturday, December 6, 2025, at the Wallace-Thompson Funeral Home Chapel in Rusk. Interment will be in Sardis-Edgefield Cemetery directly following the service.

Mr. Sewell died November 22, 2025, at his home in Chandler. He was born January 6, 1935, in Hebron, Texas to the late Grover and Sarah Sewell. Monroe was a resident of Carrollton, Texas, where he was one of the town's first mail carriers. He retired from the Post Office after 35 years and moved to his beloved piney woods of East Texas. He worked for Troup Independent School District for a few years before going to work at Tyler Pounds Regional Airport for 7 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, genealogy, food bank distribution, roller skating, watching TV westerns and game shows, and Sudoku. He loved and appreciated all his friends that were like family to him, Kalen, Rachael, Dallas, Carrie, Maria, Cici, Sandra, Faye, Johnny, Devonia, Mike, and Joanie, to name a few. Special thanks to Stephanie and Cam for caring for him while he was at home in hospice.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sue Merlene Berry Sewell, and a son, James Berry Sewell. He is survived by his son Weston Sewell of Carrollton; four daughters and one son-in-law, Lisa Sewell of Carrollton, Melynda Gattis of Harlingen, Gail Long of Addison, and Jamie Clement and husband Greg of Fort Worth; nine grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; sister Mildred Glidewell; and numerous nieces and nephews. His memory will live on in all who loved him.
