James (Jimmy) Richard Shaddock passed to spirit in his San Antonio, Texas home on the afternoon of July 10, 2025, at the age of 67. James was born June 19, 1958, in Dallas, Texas where he lived for much of his childhood. He later moved to San Antonio where he attended John Jay High School. James went on to proudly serve in the United States Army. He later settled in San Antonio, Texas where he enjoyed working as a mechanic before moving on to L&H Packing where he worked until retiring.

James enjoyed fishing, Southern rock, a good glass of whisky, cooking and gathering with family and friends. He was known for his calm demeaner, sarcastic laugh and risqué sense of humor, especially when creating musical parodies while fishing with siblings and friends.

Despite his efforts to conceal his soft heart, James was known for his empathy and compassion. He had a heart for the most vulnerable and was known for helping others, even beyond his means. More than anything, he loved children and animals. He could often be seen cuddling, comforting and teasing little ones or snuggling a pet. James is preceded in spirit by his maternal grandparents John and Carrie Takats, paternal grandparents J.R and Nelle Belle Shaddock, mother Vera Keeling, stepfather Larry Dale Keeling Sr, brother Neal Shaddock, sister Sarah Yanta, and his beloved best friend, Baby.

James is survived by his daughter Brianne Mergele, son Bradlee Mergele, grandchildren Nicolas Mergele, Noah Mergele, Brandee Estrada, and Kenzee Mergele Rogers, brothers Larry Dale Keeling Jr and wife Christie and Wayne Keeling and wife Lacretia, sister Lisa Tellez and husband Roland, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be held 2:45 p.m. on Monday, August 25, 2025, at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. Friends are invited to celebrate James Shaddock's life with the family after services.
