James Sheehan Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Day Funeral Home - Keyport on Dec. 16, 2025.
James Patrick Sheehan, 58, of Aberdeen, passed away suddenly on Monday, December 15, 2025, at Home.
He was born in New York City to the late Francis Sheehan and Johanna (Corbett) Sheehan and grew up in Jersey City.
He attended St. Anne's School in Jersey City and graduated from St. Peter's Prep in 1985. He earned his Bachelor's Degree in Political Science from Rutgers University in 1989. At Rutgers, he played rugby and was a member of Sigma Alpha Mu Fraternity (Sammy). Upon graduating, he then obtained his Juris Doctorate from New York Law School in 1992.
James practiced law as an Assistant Deputy Public Defender with the State of New Jersey Office of the Public Defender for the Hudson County branch for many years, retiring in 2022. A member of New York and New Jersey Bar, he worked for several attorneys and law firms at the beginning of his career and then opened his own practice, where he did pro bono work for non profits. He also worked as a municipal public defender in a few municipalities throughout Hudson County. In 2002, he was a candidate for Bayonne City Council in the 3rd Ward.
He was also involved with St. Vincent de Paul School in Bayonne, NJ, where his children attended school, as a Boy Scout Leader and coach for various sports, including floor hockey and lacrosse. He was also an assistant football coach for the Bayonne Junior Tigers and an assistant baseball coach for Cal Ripken.
He is survived by his beloved wife Stacey (Gimbel) Sheehan, his loving children, James Patrick Sheehan Jr. of Bayonne and Gabrielle "Gabby" Sheehan also of Bayonne, and stepchildren Jennifer Arnott (Sheahan), Lindsay Pacheco (Maggie), Jesse Pacheco, and grandson Frederick Arnott. He was also a beloved dog dad to his three Pitbulls, Joey, Guppy, and Sunshine.
James was a history buff and loved many things, especially traveling, archery, and the chance to debate law with anyone who dared. He was an avid sci-fi and fantasy fan, with some of his favorite series being Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, and Star Trek. He was a collector of comic books, baseball caps, shiny rocks, and, most recently, skull cups. He adored being a grandfather, lovingly referred to as pop-pop. James would want to be remembered as someone who was an advocate with a unique sense of humor and vivid imagination.
