SHOOLTZ, James D. "Jim" – of Chesaning, died Wednesday, September 21, 2022, at Union Court of Chesaning. He was 90 years of age.
Jim was born October 17, 1931, in Chesaning to the late Walter and Rose (Martin) Shooltz and was a lifelong resident of Chesaning. Jim was a 1950 graduate of Our Lady of Perpetual Help School and then served in the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He was united in marriage to Gayle Ketchum on May 11, 1957. She preceded him in death on June 10, 2016. Mr. Shooltz owned and operated the former Jim's IGA in Chesaning for many years. He was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church, Chesaning Historical Museum, Knights of Columbus St. Christopher Council #2943, American Legion Post #212, and was Past President of the Rotary Club of Chesaning. He enjoyed golfing, playing cards and traveling.
Surviving are: four children: David (Cindi) Shooltz of Chesaning, Sally (Ted) Lawson of CO, Daniel (Michelle) Shooltz of Chesaning, and Dennis (Judy) Shooltz of KS; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sister, Margarite Korf of Clio; sisters-in-law, Patricia Shooltz of IN and Bonnie Ruff of Chesaning; brother-in-law, Gary (Paula) Ketchum of CO; many nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was also preceded in death by: brother, Ron Shooltz in 2021; brothers-in-law, Glenn Korf in 2009 and Howard Ruff Jr. in 2012; and his grandson's fiancé, Taryn Guyer in 2022.
A memorial Mass will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, October 1, 2022, at St. Peter Catholic Church. Fr. Jim McDougall officiating. Visitation will be at the church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until time of mass at 11 a.m. Inurnment in Mt. Calvary Cemetery will be at a later date. Contributions in his memory may be made to the Chesaning Historical Museum. You may light a memorial candle or share a memory at misiukfuneralhome.com.
