Jim Sigmon (James Sidney Sigmon, Jr.) of Fort Mill, SC, loving and devoted husband, father, PawPaw, uncle and friend passed away suddenly on October 30, 2023, at the age of 72. Jim was born October 17, 1951, in Sumter, SC to Mary Elizabeth Russell Sigmon and James Sidney Sigmon, Sr., their only child. He graduated from Edmunds High School and then with an A.S. degree in business from Wingate College and with B.S. and M.S. degrees in business, accounting and criminal justice from the University of SC.
Jim's many jobs included McDonalds manager; Sheriff's Deputy (in Columbia, SC); DSS Investigator; McDaniel-Sigmon Roofing Company; and auditor for Aramco, Michelin, Bowater, Continental Tire, Goodrich Tire, and American Tire Distributor. In his retirement, he opened his own consulting firm as a Certified Fraud Examiner/Private Investigator.
On January 13, 1978, he met the love of his life, Janie Moore at a friend's (Cindy Mathis) wedding. They were wed on July 22, 1978, in Columbia, SC. Their son, who was the light of Jim's life, Matthew James Sigmon, was born on March 20, 1981. From the beginning of Janie and Jim's marriage, the Lutheran church and God's work was an important part of their lives. Jim served in many, many capacities in the Lutheran churches where they were members, including his last church, Amazing Grace Lutheran Church, Waxhaw, NC. He loved going to church and rarely missed a church service or event. Jim enjoyed his last full day on Earth at church which was very fitting for a life of God's service.
Jim's passions in life were hunting and fishing. There were four seasons to his life – turkey, fishing, deer, and duck. His favorite color was camouflage, as anyone who knew him would affirm. He was a long-time member of the Piedmont Hunt Club and led the Gate Team. Jim was also very active in the SC Association of Legal Investigators (SCALI) by attending local and statewide meetings, auditing accounts, presenting at the May 2022 meeting, working on the Scholarship Committee and being an active and supportive member. But most of all, Jim loved spending time with his family – Janie, Matt, Hillary and Savannah. One of his favorite activities was the "Redneck" games every Thanksgiving where the whole extended family participated in axe-throwing, fishing games, shooting air guns and crossbows, etc.
Jim was pre-deceased by his parents, Mary and Sid. He is survived by his wife Janie (Melody Jane Moore Sigmon), son Matt, daughter-in-law Hillary, and granddaughter Savannah of Monroe, NC; sister-in-law and her family, Cindy, Michael, Tim, Kevin (Ginnifer, Elliott, Rachel, Hope), Hannah, and Caroline (Schuyler Will) Johnson; and brothers-in-law Ricky Moore and Minam Kalina (Sue). He also left a swath of other family members and countless friends who will miss him dearly.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm Saturday, November 4, at Amazing Grace Lutheran Church, 416 W North Main St, Waxhaw, NC 28173, a Celebration of Life will follow.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Amazing Grace Lutheran Church, Waxhaw, NC (https://secure.myvanco.com/L-Z9RB/campaign/C-13KWZ) or SCALI (SC Association of Legal Investigators) Scholarship Fund or to the South Carolina Association of Legal Investigators (SCALI) at https://www.scalinv.com/donate or by check adressed to SCALI, 864 Riverview Road, Rock Hill, SC 29730.

I worked at Richland County Sheriff´s Office with Jim. We fished and duck hunted together. I remember his deep belief and trust in God and willingness to share it with anyone. I´m so sorry to learn of Jim´s passing and offer my condolences at this late date. I just read his obituary, March 7, 2025, and it read exactly as remember him. What a great person to have known. I´m sorry I lost contact with him so many years ago.

Jim Sigmon helped me get started in SCALI and provided some much needed mentorship on a few projects I was working on. His big smile and unwavering willingness to help will be missed.
Much love and prayers to the Sigmon family,

Jimmy first lived across the street from us until 3 grade when he moved to Robney Dr. I remember he coming over to our house to place cowboys and Indians. His parents were good friends of mine. Jimmy was such a sweet guy. My mom loved his redhead.
