James Charles Simpson Jr.

James "Lump" Charles Simpson, Jr. was a beloved son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. Born on August 13, 1965, in Lake Charles, Louisiana, he was the cherished son of the late James Charles Simpson, Sr. and Shirley Marie Glodd Simpson. On May 2, 2025, at 3:50 PM, James peacefully transitioned from this life at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital.
James was a proud graduate of W.O. Boston High School, class of 1983, where he played football and built lasting friendships. After graduation, he answered the call to serve his country, dedicating four years to the U.S. Army, stationed in Germany, followed by an additional four years of service in the National Guard.
A lifelong learner, James had a deep passion for knowledge. He pursued education in various fields, attending classes in Carpentry, Business Administration, Accounting, and Real Estate Management. Though he mastered many trades, his heart belonged to the food industry. As the proud owner of The Lunch Box, he dedicated over 20 years to creating meals with love and serving his community with pride.
James will be deeply missed by his wife, Beretta Simpson of Lake Charles, LA, and his five loving children: Jasmine Simpson of Opelousas, LA; Alexus Davis (Cobie Davis); James Simpson III (Yusuf Celestaine); Alex Simpson, all of Lake Charles, LA; and Jamie Simpson of Atlanta, GA. He also leaves behind three cherished granddaughters: Gabriella Howard of Opelousas, LA; Auria Davis and Autumn Davis, both of Lake Charles, LA.
His siblings devoted-Deidrel Lubin, Neko Simpson, Shannon Bernard, Darrell Bernard (Danielle Bernard), and Sean Simpson, all of Lake Charles, LA-mourn his passing alongside a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews who adored him.
James was preceded in death by his parents, James Charles Simpson, Sr. and Shirley Marie Glodd Simpson; his maternal and paternal grandparents; his dear aunts Ora Belle Clarke (Alonzo Clarke), Loretha Ruffin, Mary Rena Pitts (Ronald Pitts), and Marie Aaron (Edward Aaron); and uncles Rayfield Simpson and Howard Simpson.
A memorial service to honor James's life will be held on Friday, May 9, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Mill Street Church of Christ, with Rev. Jerry Ardoin officiating.
James "Lump" Charles Simpson, Jr. lived a life full of love, service, and dedication. His legacy will continue to shine in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
