James R. Singler
Passed away peacefully at Edward Hospital Sunday, May 11, 2025, with his loving family by his side. Age 78. Survived by his son Michael (Tara) Singler, grandchildren Brant, Kaitlyn and Reagan Singler, his brother Phillip (Carol) Singler and beloved companion Lynne Kulp. Preceded in death by his parents Robert and Marian Singler, his loving wife Christine Singler and his brother Thomas Singler. For 20 years, Jim contributed significant time and financial support as a member of the Lewis University Golf Outing Committee. He played for the Lewis baseball team from 1965-67, helping the Flyers post a combined 83-24 record, win three Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference titles and earn three NAIA national tournament berths. The 1966 team finished second in the nation. He was a 2 time Hall of Fame inductee for Lewis University. From 1969-71, Jim served in the Army's 101st Airborne Division in Vietnam. He was a 1969 honor graduate of the Fort Still Artillery School and a finalist for 101st Airborne 1970 Soldier of the Year. He was awarded SPS M-14 (Sharpshooter M-14), EXM M-16 (Expert Marksman M-16), NDSM (National Defense Service Medal), VCM (Vietnam Campaign Medal), 2 O/S Bars (2 Overseas Bars), VSM (Vietnam Service Medal), ARCOM (Army Commendation Medal) and the BSM (Bronze Star Medal). He was the director of warehousing and inventory control for Globe Building Materials. He also served as regional sales manager for Uniroyal and as director of logistics for Jovan, where he earned the 1981 Employee of the Year Award. He was a partner and owner of Classic Edition Fragrances since 1998. Jim was the founding member and Commander of VFW post 12059 in Carillon in Plainfield and was the Chaplin of VFW 18th District. It was the first in the country founded in a closed community for just its residence. Jim was also a former board member and Chaplin for the Veterans Assistance Commission of Will County. Memorial Visitation will be held at the Carlson-Holmquist-Sayles Funeral Home, 2320 Black Road on Thursday, June 5, 2025 from 10:00 am until time services at 12:00 Noon.
