James Smith Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Jackson Funeral Service of DeMotte on Jun. 15, 2025.
James "Jim" Michael Smith, age 50, of Mt. Ayr, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on June 13, 2025, after a courageous nine-year battle with cancer. Jim was born to John W. Smith and Phyllis (Luttrell) Smith in Rensselaer, Indiana on October 9, 1974. He married the love of his life, Angela Gaskill, on August 12, 2023.
Jim was a dedicated worker who employed as a welder at Talbert for 20 years and at Chiefs for 5 years after his diagnosis. Throughout his life, he was known for his resilience, faith, and unwavering spirit. He was a devout member of Apostolic Faith Assembly Church of Mt. Ayr. Jim's faith was a guiding light through his life's challenges.
Jim was a true fighter, never losing his faith or his kindness. He loved spending time with his family, children, and grandchildren. He was always willing to lend a helping hand, never hesitating to give the shirt off his back to those in need. When he wasn't working or helping others, Jim found joy riding his motorcycle and helping his brothers work on cars and semis.
Jim will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him. His legacy of love, faith, and generosity will live on in the hearts of those he touched.
He is survived by his wife, Angela Smith, His daughters Monica Nance, Savanna (Jacob) Cooper, Haylie Nance, Shaylin (Dakota) Boldman, and Jazmine Gaskill, his grandchildren; Isabelle, Randall, Spencer, Walker, Zayne, Journey, and Kimber. His mother Phyllis Smith, His siblings; Carolyn (Stormy) Schneegas, John (Vette) Smith, Shannon Ferguson, and Carl (Jennifer) Smith.
He is proceeded in death by his Father John W. Smith; his nephew William A. Schneegas, and brother-in-laws Randy Ferguson and Patrick Gaskill.
A visitation will be held at Jackson Funeral Service of Demotte on Wednesday June 18, 2025 from 11AM to 1PM, Services will be officiated by Brother Vest starting at 1PM. Burial will follow at Wheatfield Cemetery. A dinner will follow at Mt. Ayr Community Center.
