James received his education at Holman High School in Stuttgart, Arkansas, a place where he formed lasting friendships and began shaping the person he would become. He later accepted Christ at Travelers Rest Missionary Baptist Church in Stuttgart, grounding his life in faith and purpose. James found true joy in the simple beauty of working outdoors. Whether tending a yard or carefully shaping a landscape, he poured love into everything he touched. His passion for nature was more than a hobby; it was a reflection of his gentle spirit and his desire to bring beauty and peace to those around him. In his younger years, James was known for his remarkable dancing skills, a gift that never failed to light up a room. His joyful movement, full of life and rhythm, drew people in and showcased the vibrant energy that lived within him.
James's life was marked by love, faith, and an enduring appreciation for the world around him. His presence brought warmth, and his memory continues to inspire all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers Eugene Smith, Roy Smith, Chester Smith, and Johnny Smith; and three sisters Shirley Smith, Flora Smith, and Emma Jean O'Neal.
James leaves to cherish his beautiful memories: three daughters LaShonda Smith of Magee, MS, Valerie Reeves of Marion, AR and Shakeba (Britney) Allen of Lonoke, AR; one son James Smith of Arlington, TX; two sisters Lula Ice of Stuttgart, AR and Sharon Smith of Little Rock, AR; two brothers Floyd (Karen) Smith of Stuttgart, AR and George Lee Smith of Houston, TX; special niece Diana Hayes of Stuttgart, AR; thirteen grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends who will forever mourn his passing
James will be remembered for his gentle spirit, his hardworking nature, and the love he showed to everyone around him.
