James Sollars

James R. "Jim" Sollars, age 76 of Fayetteville, PA, passed away on Saturday, April 9, 2022, after a brief illness at York Hospital. Born June 5, 1945, in Canonsburg, PA, he was the son of the late Thomas G. and Viola D'Emilio Sollars.
Jim was a 1963 graduate of Rostraver High School and a 1967 graduate of St. Vincent College, where he earned his Bachelor Degree. Jim served his country honorably in the U.S. Army. He began his professional career in 1967 at Letterkenny Army Depot and lastly at Naval Support Activity Mechanicsburg, where he retired in 2000 after 33 years of civil service. Jim was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church and the VFW, both in Chambersburg, PA. Generous with his time, Jim volunteered for Project Share in Carlisle, PA; he served as the coordinator at Adoration Chapel at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, and coached youth Little League baseball in Fayetteville for a number of years. Jim enjoyed sports, especially his Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates. Jim also enjoyed gardening, fishing, and reading, but he cherished time with his family and grandchildren.
Surviving is his loving wife of 53 years, Lana McCullough Sollars, whom he married on May 4, 1968; two sons, Jeffrey A. Sollars (wife Amy) of Chambersburg, PA and David A. Sollars of Duncansville, PA; four grandchildren, Aaron Wiseman, Rachael, Madison, and Delaney Sollars; and three siblings, Thomas Sollars (wife Micki) of Miamisburg, OH, Mary Ann Robinson of Caponbridge, WV, and Rosemarie Messinger (husband David) of Harrisburg, PA.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 13, 2022, at 11 AM at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 320 Philadelphia Ave., Chambersburg, PA, where Rev. Fr. Allan Wolfe will officiate. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 12, 2022 from 6-8 PM in the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Inc., 333 Falling Spring Rd., Chambersburg, PA. Inurnment will follow the Mass in Corpus Christi Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the above church and address.
