James Ray Sonnier, 76, passed away on October 7, 2024, in the comfort of his own home following an extended and courageous battle with numerous health challenges. James (Jimmy) was born in Eunice, LA to Cleophas (Red) and Nelrine (Nellie) Sonnier on September 3,1948, and was raised in Sulphur, LA. James worked in the Oilfield for Carr Truck Service and as a heavy equipment operator. James retired from the Port of Shreveport/Bossier as the Superintendent. He was a member of Our Lady of LaSalette Parish in Sulphur, LA.
James enjoyed life, Louisiana food and spending time with his family. He was an avid sportsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing and shrimping. He loved his dog, Sable Priscilla Sonnier who made it to heaven one hour prior to James and was affectionately awaiting his return home to his Lord and savior.
Those left to cherish his memory are his caring wife, Patricia Sonnier (Nunez); daughter, Ginger Little (Adron) of Carlyss; son, Kevin Sonnier (Missy) of Sulphur; grandchildren, Joshua Little (Danielle), Lauren Armentor, Coby Little (Laiken) Ashton Sonnier and Levi Sonnier. James was blessed with 5 great grandchildren, Theresa, Raemi, Westin, Kollyns and Josie.
He was preceded in death by his father, Cleophas (C.J.) Sonnier; Mother, Nelrine Sonnier; and his beloved Sister, Mable Andrepont.
Pallbearers: Johsua Little, Coby Little, Adron Little, Ashton Sonnier, Levi Sonnier, and Robert Smith.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 AM Thursday at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in Carlyss, LA. Visitation will begin at 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a rosary at 6:00 PM at Johnson Funeral Home of Sulphur on Wednesday, October 9, 2024. Visitation will resume at 8:00 AM until 9:30AM on Thursday, October 10, 2024, at Johnson Funeral Home of Sulphur. Burial will follow services at Big Woods Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home of Sulphur. Fr. Sibi Kunninu M.S., and Fr. John Welch will co-celebrate services.
