October 14, 1932 - August 26, 2025
James Herbert "Herb" Sparks Jr., 92, of Rock Island, passed from this earth on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, at Celebrate Senior Living, Moline, in the care of Unity Point Hospice.
A visitation will be held from 10:00 am to 11:00 am on Friday, August 29, 2025, at Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline, followed by a graveside service at 11:30 AM at Rock Island National Cemetery with military honors.
Herb Sparks was born in Davenport, Iowa to James H Sr. and Gladys "Kindred" Sparks, October 14, 1932. Herb graduated from Sacred Heart School in 1946, was a 1950 graduate of St. Ambrose Academy, attended the University of Iowa and proudly served in the U.S. Army, during the Korean War.
Herb owned and managed Illowa Service Center in East Moline for over 35 years. During his retirement years Herb worked many jobs the latest at Suzie's Slots, Moline, until July 2025, when his health would no longer allow him to work.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sharon; father, Herb Sr.; mother, Gladys; brothers, Joseph and George; and stepdaughter, Lisa Dorn. He is survived by his daughters, Beth Sparks (Tim Kress), Rock Island and Lori Roseland, Welton, IA; son, Joe (Lori) Sparks, Bennett, IA; stepdaughter, Vicky Libowsky, Port Byron, IL; stepson, Jeff Dorn, Davenport; 5 grandchildren; 6 step-grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; 7 step great grandchildren; and 4 great-great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to J. Sparks P.O. Box 154, Bennett, IA 52721.
