James Spelic Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Waite Funeral Home Brunswick on Jan. 3, 2026.
James "Jim" Spelic, 61, of Medina, went to be with Jesus on January 1, 2026, after a hard-fought battle with COPD.

Jim was the beloved husband of Linda Spelic, his wife of 40 years and the love of his life. Together since they were just 16 years old, their bond was one of deep devotion and unwavering love. Linda was the most loving and attentive wife imaginable, caring for Jim around the clock and selflessly dedicating every moment of the last several years to ensuring he received the very best care and comfort.
Jim was a proud and devoted father to their four beautiful children: Jacob Spelic (Kay Spelic), Rachael Spelic, Mary Spelic, and Rebehkah Spelic. He took immense pride in each of them and cherished every moment spent together. He also shared a special bond with his "adopted" granddaughter, Melania, who spent much time with him in recent years and brought him great joy-especially during their time playing games together.

Jim is survived by his father, Charles Spelic; his brothers David (Ming) Spelic and Jason (Heather) Spelic; and many loving sisters- and brothers-in-law. The family is deeply grateful to all of them for the extra care, love, and support they provided. A special thank you is extended to Steve Carey and Kelly Svoboda, who gave so much of themselves to ensure Jim could remain at home through his final days.

He was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Mary Ann Spelic.

Jim was also dearly loved by his Local 860 family, who were far more than coworkers-they were his buddies and truly like family. He valued his neighbors as well, and it meant a great deal to him that everyone looked out for one another. Never far from his side was his best four-legged friend, Milo, who brought him constant companionship and comfort.

Known for his love of dirt bikes and rarely being seen without his favorite Yamaha shirt, Jim lived life with quiet strength and a generous heart. His final days were filled with the best quality of life possible thanks to the compassionate and loving care of Cleveland Clinic Hospice, for which the family is profoundly thankful.

Jim will be remembered for his devotion to his family, his loyalty to his friends, and the love he gave so freely. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Visitation will be held from 12-2 pm, Saturday, January 10, 2026, at Waite Funeral Home, 3300 Center Rd., Brunswick, followed by funeral services at 2 pm.
