James G. Spraggon
Born: December 19, 1961 in Streator, IL
Died: March 5, 2026 in Bloomington, IL
James G. Spraggon, 64 of Streator passed away Thursday March 5, 2026, at OSF St.
Joseph's Medical Center in Bloomington, IL after a short battle with cancer surrounded
by family.
Following cremation, a visitation will be held Friday March 13 th from 10 am until Noon at
Grace Community Church. A funeral service will immediately follow. His family will have
a private burial in the New Jerusalem Cemetery at a later time.
Jim was born on December 19, 1961, in Streator to John D. and Corynne (Connell)
Spraggon. He married Kimberly (Bentlin) Cole on March 2, 1991. She survives.
Also surviving are his daughter Taylor Spraggon of Streator and son Julian (Aisha)
Spraggon of Streator; stepdaughters Emily (Jared) Thumm of Ottawa, Erica (Ben)
Reum of Streator; grandchildren, Micah, Maci, and Mila Spraggon, Donavin and Connor
Jones, Bentley Thumm, Madelyn and Jonathan Reum; great granddaughter Lillian
Jones; sisters, Peggy DeVita of Villa Park and Sue (Bob) Danko of Streator and several
nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Jack and Tom Spraggon, and sister
Karen Spraggon. Jim attended Streator Grade Schools and graduated from Streator
High School in 1980. He was employed at Stertil/ALM in Streator and was a member of
Grace Community Church and active with the Celebrate Recovery Program and Live
Well Streator.
Jim loved all sports. He was an avid wrestling fan and was involved in several wrestling
events through the years where he touched many lives in the local wrestling scene. He
was a huge Florida State Seminoles fan and loved to collect the teams' memorabilia. In
his early years, he played fast pitch softball and bowled in leagues where he achieved a
perfect 300 game. As he got older, he enjoyed watching sporting events on TV but
really enjoyed going to see the Blackhawks and Bulls play.
Jim had a passion for leading others and was involved with various ministries over the
years. He was a youth sponsor and would take them on trips to various concerts and
festivals. When Grace Community Church began their Celebrate Recovery Ministry, he
was faithfully there every Monday night and led many small group studies. Jim was also
an Associate non rider with Broken Chains Fellowship through Celebrate Recovery. He
loved to share his testimony of what Jesus did for him and did so all over the state. He
even attended a Celebrate Recovery in his favorite vacation spot in Florida.
Jim was a husband, father, mentor, friend, and brother and will be dearly missed by all.
Memorials may be made in his name to the Celebrate Recovery Program.
