Mr. James Franklin Standley was born in Nashville, Tennessee on January 25, 1942. He was the son of Decatur Franklin and Lora Mae Standley.
He is preceded in death by not only his parents but also his siblings Dorothy, Mary Frances, Jean, Shirley, Patricia, Frank Jr., Thomas (Butch), William, and Joe.
He is survived by his lovingly faithful wife of 60 years Barbara Robertson Standley, adoring son Dr. Christopher Standley and his wife Jill, grandsons Connor and Spencer, and two brothers David and Mike.
He attended Catholic schools while growing up in Nashville and he attended the University of Tennessee in Nashville. Jim was proud to have served his country in Vietnam and was grateful to the VA for all their care and services throughout the years. James made a career of being a master carpenter throughout his entire life and took great joy in sharing his skills with family and friends. He was a devout Roman Catholic and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He dutifully fostered that faith in his son and grandsons. He loved to fish, mow his lawn, and even lost more than one or two hands of poker throughout his life. Later in life he was happy to spend a great deal of time with his grandsons and enjoyed attending all of their many extracurricular activities. He was as proud of them as any grandfather possibly could be and he never missed a chance to remind them of that fact. His family is left behind with too many wonderful memories of James to recount. Over the past several years he battled dementia but through it all he never forgot his wife. He died peacefully on June 5, 2025, surrounded by his loving family who already miss him as much as they thought they would. The family would like to extend their sincerest gratitude to everyone at Suncrest Hospice for the compassionate care they provided.
