Columbiana - James D. Steele, age 82, formerly of Leetonia, passed away on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at Mercy Health St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital, Youngstown.

He was born on December 8, 1942, in Salem, OH, son of the late Norman and Elizabeth Meissner Steele.

Jim had worked as a maintenance electrician for National Refractories and was a member of Saint Patrick Parish. He was a 4th degree Knight of Columbus with the Knights Columbus Council 1569. Jim served in the Navy during the Vietnam War.

He is survived by his wife, Candace Lee Arter Steele, whom he married on May 27, 1967; his two sons, Mark J. (Julie) Steele of Mountain Home, ID and Matthew J. (Beth) Steele of Parma, OH; three grandchildren, Rachel Steele, Logan Steele and Lukas Steele; his sisters, Diana Orsburn of Atwater and Mary Steele of Columbiana; his brothers, Norman Steele of Salem, Robert (Christine) Steele of Cortland, Eric (Mindy) Steele of Mauldin, SC and Terry (Debbie) Steele of Salem.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Patricia Landsberger, Beth L. Summers and Barbara Jean Steele.

The family will receive friends on Friday, November 14, 2025 from 4:00 pm-7:00 pm at the Woods-Rettig Funeral Home, Leetonia where the Knights of Columbus service will be held at 7:00 pm.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at 10:00 am at Saint Patrick Parish, Leetonia, with The Very Rev. Chad Johnson, V.F. and Reverend Robert Edwards officiating.

Burial will take place at Mount Calvary Cemetery, Leetonia where military honors will be accorded by the Benjamin Firestone #290 American Legion Honor Guard.

Memorial donations may be made to Mount Calvary Cemetery Association.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Woods-Rettig Funeral Home, Leetonia.
