Mr. James Stephens, age 79 of Warthen, passed away at Fairview Park Hospital in Dublin, following an extended illness. A funeral service to celebrate his life will be held on Friday, March 15, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, with internment following in the church cemetery. Reverend Bryce Jeffcoat, Reverend Tim Fields and Reverend Albert Fields will officiate. Pallbearers will be Austin Swint, Zachery Wright, Jed May, J.W. May, Mike Lewis, John Mark Tanner, Benji Tarbutton, Blake Harris, and Jamie Swint. The family will receive friends on Friday, March 15, 2024, from 1:00 p.m. until the hour of service at the church.
Mr. Stephens was a lifelong resident of Washington County, the son of the late Melvin Clarence Stephens and Edith Reynolds Stephens. He served his country in the Georgia National Guard and spent his working career as a lab technician for Imerys. Mr. Stephens was a member of the Pleasant Grove Hunting Club and the Polyann Hunting Club. He was of the Baptist faith and was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, Mr. Stephens is preceded in death by his brother, Phillip Stephens.
Mr. Stephens is survived by his loving wife, Sue Stephens; daughters, Tammy Denise May and her husband Tommy of Warthen, and Karen Beth Wright and her husband Phil of Sandersville; grandchildren, Zachery Wright and his wife Jess, Megan Wright Swint and her husband Austin, J.W. May and his wife Mackenzie, Jed May, and Jesslyn May; and great grandchildren, Emily Wright, Carlee Swint, and Olivia Wright.
The family suggests donations be made in Mr. Stephens' memory to Bethlehem Baptist Church, P.O. Box 85, Warthen, Georgia 31094 or Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, c/o Susan Allen, 2947 Pleasant Grove Road, Sandersville, Georgia 31082.
