Mrs. Anne Pool, age 74, of Tennille-Harrison Road, passed away unexpectedly at her residence on Wednesday, February 4, 2026. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. in the May and Smith Funeral Home chapel, with Reverend Bobby Williford and Reverend Scott Ferguson officiating. Anne’s fellow educators will serve as honorary pallbearers. The family will greet friends on Saturday, February 7, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. until the hour of service at the funeral home.
Anne was raised in Washington County, in a loving Christian home, the daughter of the late Beverly Pool, Sr. and the late Lydia Bray Pool. She was a successful educator, who ran a strict but excellent classroom, which earned her the distinction of Teacher of the Year at Tennille Elementary School. Anne was an avid reader and loved to study astronomy. She also was a talented artist and could draw and paint well. She was a true Georgia Bulldogs fan and rarely missed watching a game. Some of Anne’s favorite things in life were going camping in Helen, going out to eat and socializing, and Diet Dr. Pepper. She was always concerned about other people, and her greatest joy in life was her children and grandchildren, of whom she was very proud. Anne was a wonderful mother and always did her best to make sure her five children were taken care of. In the last few years Anne could be found sitting on her front porch, on her golf cart, or feeding the birds and taking care of her dog Olive Oil. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother, Beverly, Pool, Jr. and nephew, Caleb Pool.
Anne is survived by her children, Rock Tanner (Amy) of Harrison, Matthew Tanner (Hillary) of Bishop, Ashley Gheesling (Chuck) of Wrightsville, Lacey Sayler of Concord, NC, and Colby Mathis (Ashley) of Harrison; grandchildren, Tripp Tanner, Elizabeth Tanner, Cole Tanner, Justin Tanner, Tanner Gheesling, Kyla Anderson, Logan Anderson, Carleigh Sayler, Wren Sayler, Peyton Mathis, and Cohen Mathis; sister in law, Linda Pool; nephews, Nathan Pool and Jacob Pool; and special family friends, Jon Archer, and Jordan, DeAnna, Bella, and Hunter Reid.
The family will be at Anne’s house on Tennille-Harrison Road.
The family would like to thank Anne’s caregiver, Katie Toussau for her love and support.
