Larrie A. Pool, 83, of Lancaster, passed away on March 23, 2026 in Lancaster.
He was the husband of Sandra “Sandy” L. Maurer Pool, with whom he shared 37 years of marriage this past December 17th. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Charles E. and Esther Ulmer Pool and was a 1960 graduate of JP McCaskey High School.
Following high school, Larrie began working at WGAL TV 8 for what would be a 40 year career until his retirement in 2000. He started in maintenance and moved into being a news photographer, covering many major stories such as Hurricane Agnes, TMI, and famous persons. In 2018, he was inducted into the WGAL Hall of Fame.
He was a US Army veteran of the Vietnam War, serving as a SP4 at Fort Belvoir, VA as a Military Policeman. While there, he had been assigned to Presidential Lyndon Johnson’s helicopter detail, earning the Presidential Service Badge.
He was a life member of the American Legion Post 56 in Lititz, the Lancaster Commercial Travelers Assn., and the Pequea Valley Sportsmans Assn. He was also a member of Lancaster Elks Lodge 134 and Faith United Church of Christ.
Larrie always rooted loudly for the Eagles and Phillies, enjoyed the peace and quiet of his cabin in Potter County, and his monthly games of Mexican Train with his cousins.
In addition to his wife, Sandy, he is survived by his nieces and nephews: Steve Maurer, Elizabeth Powers, Cynthia Hall, and William Maurer, and by his Lancaster cousins Barbara Cochran, Kenneth Hammel, Deb Howell, and Cynthia Kellish.
Friends will be received by Larrie’s family on Wednesday, April 1, 2026 from 9-10AM at the Charles F. Snyder Jr Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA with the Funeral Service to follow at 10AM. Interment will follow at 12:30PM at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions in Larrie’s memory to Faith UCC , 1204 Wabank Rd. Lancaster, PA 17603 or the American Legion Post 56- Lititz, 109 N. Broad St., Lititz, PA 17543.
