John Flanagan Obituary

Visit the Charles F. Snyder Funeral Homes & Crematory - Manheim Township website to view the full obituary.

John L. Flanagan, 40, of Ephrata, passed away unexpectedly on March 22, 2026 of natural causes. Born in Korea, he was the son of J. Michael Flanagan of Lititz and the late Barbara A. Maushardt Flanagan. John came to the United States and was adopted by Mike and Barbara in 1985, bringing a lifetime of happiness to his new family.

John was a graduate of the Lancaster County Career and Technology Center in Brownstown and Devry University where he studied computer networking. For the last several years John was employed as a senior service technician for the ESCO Corporation, specializing in IT security systems. He was grateful for his colleagues, his boss, and the company who treated him well.

A very talented man, John could fix nearly anything. He took great pride in his current home, completely renovating every aspect of the house from kitchen cabinets, to electrical circuitry, to plumbing. He took the most pride in his installation of solar panels charging a home battery bank with self-taught skills learned during the project.

John generously shared his mechanical and technical talents with family and friends, devoting many weekends helping others, troubleshooting homeowner headaches, and fixing a host of problems across multiple trades. Weekend trips to Home Depot to help others were a regular event. John also patiently walked his less technologically gifted family members through their devices, tutored each on hazards to avoid, and dug them out of self-inflicted problems when they inevitably occurred.

John’s know- how was not confined to tools and technology. He was an excellent self-taught chef and loved to use the element of food to bring family and friends together. Last Thanksgiving his turkey, the product of a butter-herb rub and meticulous brining, led to a long line for seconds.

In addition to his father, Michael, he is survived by his brothers: Dr. M. Casey Flanagan, married to Dr. Julia Cheringal of Bethesda, MD and Joseph Flanagan, married to Abigail of Lancaster, who will all deeply miss him. He was preceded in death by his mother, Barbara and by his sister, Laura K. Flanagan.

Friends will be received by John’s family on Wednesday April 1, 2026 at the Charles F. Snyder Jr Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA from 11AM to 12 Noon, with the Christian Prayer Service to follow at 12 Noon. Interment will be private at St. Joseph New Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution in John’s memory to something close to his heart, the Pennsylvania SPCA- Lancaster, 848 S. Prince St., Lancaster, PA 17603.
