James J. Straub Sr., 88, passed away peacefully on Tuesday at Green Ridge Care Center.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Janet (Foley); his parents, Robert and Catherine (Judge) Straub; a son, Ronald; a son, John; his siblings, Rosemary Miller, Robert Straub, John Straub and Joseph Straub.

He is survived by his four sons, James Jr. (Cynthia), Thomas, Robert (Barbara) and Michael (Margaret); his brother, Gerard (Kathy) Straub; his sister-in-law, Donna Straub; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews, including his goddaughter, Rosemary (Miller) Snook.

A 1954 graduate of South Catholic High School, Jimmy worked tirelessly to support his wife and family. He was employed by multiple facilities in the meat-packing industry for over 40 years, retiring as a supervisor.

Jimmy was a devout Catholic and throughout his lifetime was a member of a number of South Side parishes, most recently St. Teresa of Calcutta.

Viewing hours at Neil Regan Funeral Home, 1900 Pittston Ave., Scranton on Friday 4 to 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Teresa of Calcutta Parish at Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Church, 1217 Prospect Ave., Scranton. Family and friends may proceed directly to the church on Saturday. Entombment will follow at Cathedral Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, TN 38105, or at stjude.org.
