Sharon Albert, 59, of Pittston, died Friday at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center.

Born in Scranton, she was a daughter of the late Robert and Janet Maloney Kirchner. A graduate of Scranton Central High School and Marywood University, Sharon was employed for many years as an elementary school teacher, and retired as a school librarian. A strong believer in the power of education, Sharon had a passion for lifelong learning, and did her best to instill that value in the lives of those she touched.

A loving and devoted mother, grandmother, aunt and sister, Sharon was a kind and gentle soul who always took the time to help anyone who needed her. She was an animal lover and an avid collector of teddy bears and all things Winnie the Pooh. As a devoted caretaker for her late mother, Sharon shared a special bond with her parents, and is at rest with both of them now. She will be deeply missed, but fondly remembered, by her family and friends.

Sharon's family would like to thank the kind and caring staff of the Geisinger Wyoming Valley emergency room, especially Dr. Brendan Dragann.

Surviving are three daughters, Katrina Albert and partner, Michael Forzano; Korin Albert and husband, Alex Giguere; and Rebecca Albert; her beloved Pomeranian, Zorro; three grandchildren, Lilly, Grace and Zander Giguere; a sister, Karen Tullio and husband, Allen; two brothers, Robert Kirchner and wife, Leslie; and William Kirchner; and six nieces and nephews, Kyle, who was Sharon's godson, and Morgan Tullio; Kelly and Josh Kirchner, who was also Sharon's godson; and Geanna and Matthew Kirchner.

In accordance with Sharon's wishes, she has been cremated. The funeral will be Friday, Aug. 9, with Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Divine Mercy Parish at St. Joseph's Church, 312 Davis St., celebrated by Rev. Paul A. McDonnell O.S.J., pastor, with interment to follow at Cathedral Cemetery. Friends may call Friday, Aug. 9, from 9 to 10, at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Luzerne County SPCA.

Arrangements are under the care of the Neil W. Regan Funeral Home Inc., 1900 Pittston Ave. To email condolences, please visit the funeral home website.
