John Albert Obituary

John Harold Albert

November 21, 1946 - January 29, 2026

Charlotte, North Carolina - John Harold Albert, age 78 of Charlotte, NC passed away quietly at his home on January 29. He had been enrolled in Hospice at Home for a year.

John was born in Madawaska, Maine to Rose and A. Lionel Albert in 1946 and grew up in Connecticut. He was a graduate of the University of Hartford and held a master's degree from Wesleyan University. He met his wife, Nancy Ottmann Albert when they were both undergraduates and they married in1969. Their son Jacob John was born in 1970.

John worked for many years as Events Manager at the Center for the Arts at Weslyan University, a place he dearly loved. He was a Section 8 Manager for the Middletown Housing Authority. John also enjoyed being a substitute teacher at Providence Day School for several years.

He and Nancy moved to Charlotte in 2006 and had the pleasure of watching their grandson Lucas grow up. In his younger years John loved to dance; he was a popular partner at weddings and social events where ladies lined up to dance with him. He loved gardening and was an avid reader, especially of world literature. He actively participated in his book club up until a week before his passing. He also loved doing NY Times crossword puzzles. He and Nancy had 56 good years together; he was encouraging and supportive of all her pursuits. They traveled widely including celebrating their 50th anniversary in London attending plays and concerts.

John was predeceased by his parents and brothers Elmer and Camille Albert. He is survived by his wife Nancy, son Jacob, grandson Lucas, dear cousin Philippe Gagne of San Diego, brother-in law Mark Ottmann and sister-in law Pat Albert, as well as several nieces, nephews and grand nephews.

A memorial service is being planned for Saturday, March 14 at the King's Mountain Preserve where he will have a natural burial. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Via Health Partners, whose Hospice nurses took excellent care of him. John was also an avid believer in and supporter of Public Broadcasting. A donation to your favorite public radio or television station in his name would have pleased him.
