James Summet Obituary
Published by Legacy on Oct. 25, 2025.
James (Jim) Wiley Summet, born in Gallup, New Mexico on July 15th, 1942, and raised in Taos NM, and Albuquerque NM. He died in Ocoee, FL on Saturday October 4, 2025.
After high school, Jim served in the United States Navy. When back in Albuquerque he opened up Sunland Cycles repair shop and after a while he and Nancy purchased the Kawasaki dealership in Santa Fe NM. When they sold that shop, they moved to Tampico, Washington. This is where they raised their two children, Jay and Rebecca, along with sheep and other livestock. While there Jim was a volunteer fire fighter for 15 years. The consummate handy man, he added multiple rooms and porches to their home and single handedly with the help of his backhoe, he re-built a washed out bridge over the Ahtanum creek so they could drive back to their house after the flood.
He was the dad who tied our sleds to the back of a three-wheeler and sped around the back roads with us hanging on for dear life. He was the dad who encouraged us to jump out of swings, to ride our bikes over a jump, jump into water from great heights, and all the other daredevil stuff that makes kids tough. He also snuck us sugar and junk food, which we appreciated. He was kind, loved to joke around, loved animals, loved his family, and he will be greatly missed.
Survived by his wife Nancy, his son Jay (Valerie) and grandson Oscar, Daughter Rebecca and her little dog Boba who helped care for Jim at the end.
He is also survived by his sister Marguerite Campbell and her son Scott Campbell.
His nieces and nephew: Sarita (Bryan) Pruess, Elisa (Scott) Lendzion, Shaz Austin Davidson, Cynthia Scott & Jerene Speakman, Roy Yates, Jr (Shawnee).
He is survived by his in-laws Marilyn & Frank Feldman and their children Michael Joseph Means (Kim) and Karrisue Clark.
