James Tanner Obituary

Published by Legacy on Dec. 21, 2025.
James "Lonnie" Tanner, born February 13, 1967, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, December 19, 2025.

Lonnie grew up in Columbia County, Florida, where he spent his early years working alongside friends and family in the farming fields. He had a childhood full of the fondest memories. He graduated from Columbia High School and later joined the Army Reserve National Guard in 1986. In 1987, he married Dorothy "Annette" Ducksworth and they began a life in Mayo, where they raised their family.

Lonnie spent nearly 35 years working as an over-the-road semi-truck driver. He was deeply devoted to his family and was known as someone who would drop everything to help anyone in need. He enjoyed hunting, traveling, working on his many projects, Jeeps, and off-road adventures, passions that reflected his hands-on nature and love for the outdoors.

Lonnie will be remembered for his strong work ethic, loyalty, and the way he showed up for the people he cared about.

Lonnie is preceded in death by his parents Lonnie Jackson Tanner and Roberta Johnston Tanner. He is also preceded in death by his sisters, Karen Chandler, Sandra Tanner, and Linda Taylor.

Lonnie is survived by his wife of 38 years, Annette Tanner, his daughter, Katrina (Ty) Fillyaw, his daughter, Lara Tanner, and his son, Keith (Dixie) Tanner, all of Mayo, and his sister Janet Kinard of Colorado. He is also survived by his two granddaughters Tenley and Karrigan Fillyaw.

Services for Lonnie will be held at the First Assembly of God in Mayo, Florida on Tuesday, December 23, 2025. The family will accept visitors at 10:00 and the funeral will begin at 11:00 am. Interment Services will be held at Bethany Cemetery immediately following the funeral.
